Benin port to boost agriculture, says Obaseki

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has highlighted the potential impact of the Benin Port project on various sectors in the state and Nigeria as a whole. The governor stated that the project would contribute to the growth of agriculture, real estate, manufacturing, food processing, automotive, and power sectors, among others.

The Benin Port project, which was promised by Governor Obaseki during his 2016 campaign, aims to serve as a catalyst for the expansion of the state's economy, which is valued at $11.8 billion. Mota-Engil Nigeria, the preferred bidder for the project, was announced after a thorough evaluation exercise.

The port is designed to be an agro-based port with a smart port community complex for industrial processing and export of agricultural produce and other goods. It will also include roll-on-roll-off facilities for the importation of vehicles and support various commercial activities.

During the inspection of equipment for the project in Lagos, Governor Obaseki expressed his satisfaction that the project was finally commencing, highlighting its potential to open new opportunities for the people of Edo State and Nigerians in general. The Logistic Manager of Mota-Engil Nigeria, Mr. Nuno Colaço, reaffirmed the company's commitment to the project and to Nigeria.
